Birthday list

This month, on Thanksgiving Day, Bairno will turn four years old. It is so hard to believe. Four years have passed since that day. That day brought great joy into my life and great fear into the lives of my family. Hemorrhaging and losing that much blood made for some scary hours in our house.

Since that day we have list two more children and I look at him sometimes and think about how he is the perfect caboose then find myself thinking about the ifs and how those losses took away my dreams. Right now I could be snuggling a 21 month old and feeling the kicks of another growing baby.

For some unknown (to me) reason God saw fit to make me their mother for just that amount of time. In my plan, I needed them longer than that. I still desire to hold them in my arms. In God’s plan, they only needed me for that long. God only needed me to be their mother for a few short months.

But God has blessed me with a sweet Bairno who loves to be held and snuggled still. He’s a mama’s boy, but he’s all boy! I thank God for making him extra affectionate, for giving him a heart of kindness and love.

The other day he told me he wanted some Weebles because the don’t fall down. With both his birthday and Christmas right around the corner I said, “what do you want Weebles for?”

He replied, “Oh, for about fifty dollars.”

Today I asked Bairno what he wanted for his birthday and he said he wanted “Handy Manny’s tools so he could tear down the house and Weebles for fifty dollars because they don’t fall down.”

I am not sure from whence this connection between Weebles and fifty dollars comes but he knows they don’t fall down. If he gets Weebles he most certainly will not be getting fifty dollars worth of them. It sounds like I am going to have to think hard about the tools though.

He gets a crazy look in his eye when he says “because they don’t fall down” which makes me a bit nervous about his plans for said Weebles. Like it’s a challenge.

I wish I could find some old school Weebles and some old school Fisher Price wooden Little People toys — he loves playing with the old, but broken, ones at G’ma’s house. He’d love the airport and the barn, the school house and bus are what grandma has.

I wish I had my computer so I could check eBay, it’s difficult on this little screen.

Do you remember those old choking hazards great wooden toys? Did you have a favorite?

    I loved that airplane!

  2. And he probably always will. My boys are still VERY good huggers.

  3. Ahh, I donated a whole bunch of the new little people to our church last year, plus a castle, airplane, garage, farm and construction set. I wish I had known then…lol

Well, I have seen from experience he’s not as crazy about the new chunky plastic ones. We had some but he wouldn’t play with them. I thought it might be that the others were elsewhere and he didn’t get to play either them daily, but he told me he didn’t like them. He really likes the old wooden barn and school. He is good at imaginative play; he sulphide clothes pins for people or his stuffed animals. Or his hands.
