Adventures of PNeumonia Boy

To be annoying to an almost 14 year old sick boy one must pronounce the ‘p’. PNeumonia Boy is really sick. I think we are one day away from the worst of it, but it is still a scary place to be.

This started on Friday, December 9th when he went to bed early feeling poorly. By Monday I was worried about dehydration because he was not eating or drinking and when he tried he would lose it. He was given some medicine to help him keep liquids in with a recheck the next day to make sure he was able to do so and did not need to be admitted for dehydration.

So much of this has become a blur now. The coughing got worse and worse. He said his chest was hurting. We couldn’t keep him awake for much time at all. I was still having to coax him into eating and drinking. We couldn’t get his fever to break. His breathing was labored. I could go on, but you get the idea. The boy is sick. After a week, a Z-Pack, a few more visits, and ruling out both flu and strep we went back on Tuesday the 20th and an x-ray confirming my suspicions of pneumonia.

Tuckered out

cuddled

The second Sunday of Advent was a long one for us. There was the usual Sunday stuff and yummy pot luck lunch after church, but we threw in a trip to The Next Town Over for a live simulcast of the St. Olaf Christmas Festival. It was wonderful. Beautiful Advent and Christmas music (done right). We were given free tickets and some extras to share around so all eight of us got to go. I am glad those tickets were free; otherwise we would not have been able to go at $20.00 a ticket times eight of us. With the rainy, rainy weather and a couple of wrecks (fender benders and skids off the road) we passed, it took us quite a while to get home, much longer than usual. Once we got home we enjoyed some down time in front of a Christmas movie together.

Cylons vs. Daleks

I overheard this argument today between the 7 year old and the 4 year old:
“YOU’RE JUST A MEAN CYLON! I’m not playing your game anymore.”
“I am NOT! I’M A DALEK! [calmly] They’re awesomer.”

We are totally raising geeks in this house.

“You know what I want?”

I love how all my children talk in their sleep. When they dream I can always tell if it’s good or not. Most of the time they all seem to have good dreams and Bairno in particular has funny dreams, or at least dreams that make him rather happy. He often laughs in his sleep.

On a few occasions he has awakened me with his laughing in/at his dream only to awaken and turn quickly into tears because he wanted to go back to his dream. One morning he told me through tears, “Mama, I want to go back to sleep; my dream was funny and it wasn’t done yet.” Poor babe. I asked him what it was about and he said it was about giraffes telling elephants jokes. Oh, this boy loves giraffes. He wants a pet giraffe. I made him some pajamas that are too small now and I can not find any more fabric to make more. He makes up stories about giraffes. He makes up adventures and acts them out. He loves giraffes.

This morning he and RevMrKnowTea were sleeping a bit later than usual, so while my cup of coffee brewed in the kitchen I crawled back in the bed next to Bairno (4 yo) and gave him a kiss as he was laughing at yet another dream. Then without opening his eyes he squeezed my neck and he said, …
