I overheard this argument today between the 7 year old and the 4 year old:
“YOU’RE JUST A MEAN CYLON! I’m not playing your game anymore.”
“I am NOT! I’M A DALEK! [calmly] They’re awesomer.”
We are totally raising geeks in this house.
joy and sorrow | swimming in circles | drowning in the flood | sipping from the cup that overflows | this IS my Father's world!

Flyntster and Bairno run around and chase each other and when they catch each other they tussle and toss and wrestle and laugh and do all manner of things to each other that I ignore unless there is blood or a scream that may mean more than a simple ouch or stop it. These strange behaviors are sometimes accompanied with loud bumps and crashes followed immediately by, “We’re okay!” and “Nothing broke!” I remind them from the other end of the house often with “Good, now clean it up!” and “Please go outside to play like that!” and “BOOOOYS! Settle down!” and “You’re too loud!” One reads a book the other jumps on him. It begins all over again. When they play hard and sweat, they stink.

I found three rather large grasshoppers in our backyard the other day. I “rescued” this one from one of the kittens. Man, cats are mean to their food, aren’t they? One day back in Hattiesburg, I watched a neighbor’s cat play with her meal before she finally killed it and ate it.
I digress.

I have never seen any grasshopper this big or this color. As a matter of fact I never even thought about the existence of a grasshopper this size or color. It is not something I sit and ponder too often, the size of grasshoppers or their color. What I do know is that it absolutely freaked me out at first. I had to catch one and look it up. They seem to be Eastern Lubber Grasshoppers. Its wings do it practically no good as they are too small for the body weight and size. It can not even hop very far, just a few inches, so they mostly crawl around on the ground.

Of course I couldn’t pass up a pic of one of my bug-lovers watching me take pictures and chase it along the ground. Anyone wanting to peruse the larger versions or the whole set of buggy-goodness for your bug lover, here is the whole set. I have a bunch more I have not yet uploaded. I am so loving this camera!
