Juggling and White Trash

Today was oh so very busy. I’ll not bore you with the details, but I saved big bucks today hitting each item I needed with at least 50% off. I am talking the mundane stuff like toilet paper and parchment paper and boring household items and a few Christmas goodies that shall remain unshared because of spying eyes that lurk around.

We are now, again, a one car family. I so love that we have been blessed with hand-me-down vehicles so many times, but can I be frank and honest. I miss my van. I really, really, really miss having a second car than can hold most of us. It is so tiring to have to plan each day around who has more children at what hour and when we need to swap it up and if either one of us has to go to The Next Town Over (36.2 miles one way not including errands/classes), which is usually more than once a week then that person gets the Suburban no matter how many children are still at home and the one who stays home is most likely stuck at home because the other car will not hold the ones left behind. Yeah, I know. #firstworldproblem #largefamilyproblem #iwantaflexfuelcrossover It is actually not too bad most days. In the summer it is atrocious because the second car has no air conditioner and down here in the south it gets triple digits in June and in a car it is worse even with the windows down. At least we have the 2nd car and for that I am grateful. Truly, I am.

My Bonnie Lola

Flyntster and Bairno run around and chase each other and when they catch each other they tussle and toss and wrestle and laugh and do all manner of things to each other that I ignore unless there is blood or a scream that may mean more than a simple ouch or stop it. These strange behaviors are sometimes accompanied with loud bumps and crashes followed immediately by, “We’re okay!” and “Nothing broke!” I remind them from the other end of the house often with “Good, now clean it up!” and “Please go outside to play like that!” and “BOOOOYS! Settle down!” and “You’re too loud!” One reads a book the other jumps on him. It begins all over again. When they play hard and sweat, they stink.

Merry (early) Christmas to me.

Lola 2

She is a Brittany (Spaniel). Twelve weeks old. On the smaller side, unless all the loving she is getting makes her grow as big as Clifford.

Last weekend, Friday afternoon to be precise, I heard a strange squeaking sound. It was a very high pitched noise I had trouble placing. It sounding like a baby bird, but not a baby bird.

The Beast (Betsy, the 50 pound wonder dog) was scratching frantically at our fence and yelping. I was worried she was trying to dig a hole, which she’s never done before. I slid open the door and called her and she did her Lassie thing – run to me, then back to the “problem”, then back to me and so on barking a bit all the while.

I walked to the fence and the squeaking got louder and I could also hear some rustling around in the grass nearby only to realize whatever was down there was small and just on the other side of the fence line.

I was really worried I was going to see a very injured little bird that had fallen out of the tree and been attacked by a cat. The grass at the fence line is a matted tangle of monkey grass. The monkey grass originates from our neighbor’s yard but it is trying to take over that part of our yard as well. (*sigh* I don’t like monkey grass.)

I reached down slowly, paying careful attention to what I might not be seeing (I have seen snakes in that grass). I saw a fairly small swarm of flies in the area. Alarmed I might be seeing a nasty injury I prepared myself for just that. Then out of the tangled mess squeaked and crawled the tiniest little squirrel.
